Desire – Poem by Selasie Bulmuo

I can see what I want

In my mind it is just right there

I can’t escape it

It’s so alluring

Even now it torments me so

Both with its promise

And its sheer wantonness

My desire is like a golden tree

All grown up with fruits so tantalising

I seek to pluck just one golden one

To delve, explore its captivating depths

But oh so high it be,

Up there above my head

I cannot reach those heights to touch

Its promise and its sheer delights

I’ll settle for my fantasies

And turn them into Hope

Tangible, reacheable Hope

For now that’s second best

But it will suffice

As I strive for the best, My Desire

A fruitful life is what I seek.
