Beware! Potent Things Don’t Always Look It.

Isaiah 51:12

There are great men and women whose exploits and accomplishments have made a name for them in various facets of life. For a lot of these people success in their various areas of endeavours may not have come suddenly but they have had a disciplined way of living, have endured some turbulent times, have developed some good habits and ethics which may have yielded results hence their successes.

People who hear of them tend to idolise them and most want or wish to be like them. It is often the case however that when you actually meet them they are not that impressive looking and often what you’ve heard about them doesn’t match what you see in their physical presentation. In my view this makes their accomplishments that much more special.

Unfortunately if you hang round them long enough and you are not perceptive you begin to take them for granted, you may even begin to forget their greatness and attempt to treat them in a very ordinary way.

Being a Christian is similar to this. God is the most powerful, awesome person you will ever hear about. I mean he made everything simply by speaking them into being. Wow! Scientist are still trying to catch their breath and after all this time can still not keep up with God. Recently the world learned that scientists at the European Research Institute have found evidence confirming they are very close to hunting down the elusive Higgs boson particle, believed to be responsible for giving other particles their mass. They believe this particle may be one of the universe’s most crucial building blocks. It has been nicknamed ‘the God particle’. Higgs theory says that throughout the universe, the vacuum of space is filled with an invisible energy field; particles moving through the field gain mass. Scientists postulate that , if it were not for the particles in this field, the formation of the universe would never have been possible, nothing would exist.

The existence of an invisible energy field that gives substance to all matter? I say that is the word of God which was spoken and is still active in creation. God is awesome. Just listen to the thunder and the roar of the sea. Look at a volcano in action and a hurricane happening, even the disaster left behind by an earthquake and you will acknowledge that God is indeed awesome and great and is to be reverenced.

But look how he relates to us who give our lives to him. He speaks to us with the still small voice. He has made provision for us to have a familiar and intimate relationship with him to the extent that sometimes we begin to underestimate his greatness and even doubt him especially when we go through difficulties and it looks like our deliverance is not immediately forthcoming. We dare to question the omnipotent’s potency and even his very existence. We compare him to men. Even worse, we fear men more than him. God is sovereign. His delays are not denials.

If you are suffering adverse circumstances at the moment please be comforted by his word: ‘I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor? The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail. But I am the Lord thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The Lord of hosts is his name. And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. (Isaiah 51:12-16 KJV).
