Angel On My Wings

So they said; “we told you so
You cannot fly on broken wings”
I agree, I have tried but it seems I’m doomed to remain earthbound

So they said; “only angels dare
To ride the fair winds on high”
In invisible chariots not for mere mortals, with broken wings like yours

So I said; “I’m done, so done, I am”
No more will I try to rise above
The daily impasse of my human fears and frailties, the failures of my past

So I said; “I resign, I give up, I do”.
My tired arms too long held out
Have not embraced the warmth of dreams fulfilled, nor yet felt my due reward.

So I said; “that’s it! Trouble me not”
It’s impossible to be what I am not
So I built a prickly cocoon to rest within, but a hand begun to stir my lonely nest

So I said, to this unknown assailant
“Cant you see I’m perched precariously in midair
between my tumultuous past and a future I can’t access?”

So I said; “let me be as I am”.
This is as high as I could get when I tried to fly
Don’t re-awaken my impossible dreams, don’t trouble this midair nest of mine

Then I heard a voice say to my tired heart
“Try again, don’t give up yet, you belong much higher up
I’ll lend to you my angel wings, with your hand in mine, we’ll soar above”

Then they asked; “how did you make it?
How did you fly on broken wings?
How did you break through the barriers of the common plain?”

So I said; “can’t you see the hand in mine?”
There is an angel on my wings, who won’t let up
Until I’m high above pain and mediocrity, up where I truly belong

So I said; “Don’t you understand?”
This angel you cannot see, Is no different from you or I
When we each lend a hand to another, we become the angel on their broken wings.

Then they said; “we are no angels, you or us”
Yes I know we are mere mortals doing life,
but we transcend the ordinary when we become one another’s keeper

So I said; “can’t you see?”
Our broken wings begin to flap as heavens doors swings open
When it sees you and I reach out and soon the angels in us begin to fly again.

***We sometimes feel strange because we are not earthly beings having a human experience, we are heavenly beings in human form having an earthly experience to which we must brings more than our mere human capacities. Together, hand in hand, we can transcend the ordinary and rise above our limitations****

(Dreams) Frozen In Time

Frozen in time
Waiting for life to start
Plain to see
Life took you unawares
You thought giant strides had been made
Cos you gave a 100%
After all the years gone by
Destiny still feels undecided
Somewhere deep down you know
Your life as you often dreamed it
Never really did start
Young dreams
Frozen in time
Fantasy never realised
But no regrets, you say
You’ll just keep living
Giving it all You’ve got
These dreams may yet unfreeze
Until then
No regrets to mourn

It’s A New Day

It’s a new day
Yesterday is gone
No more sorrow
No more sadness
No more lack and loneliness
Stretch out your hands
Lift up your eyes
See, the morning sun rises
Announcing a new day
Of hope, peace and love
Togetherness and forgiveness
Good health, sunshine in our hearts
No more nostalgia for yesterday
Today is a much better day
A new day for you and I

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I Believe In Miracles

Another one from my scrap paper collection……( Dont throw scrap paper away especially if they have been around for 10 years. Cos you know you are a scribbler. You might miss something important)

I believe in a baby’s smile

I believe in a mother’s love

I believe in a peaceful world

Where every need is met

I believe the sun will shine

I believe dreams do come true

I believe a new day arrives

Where skies are clear and blue

But you say……..

There is no cure for this disease

There is no food for this hungry child

This old man must sleep in the cold tonight

Don’t you know…….

There are visions the eye can’t see

There are sounds the ear can’t hear

There is beauty beyond my touch

A taste of heaven in my heart

I believe in strength unseen

To come up ‘tops’ when one is down

I believe in tiny steps

That takes me closer to my dreams

I believe in holding on

‘Cos giving up is the easy way out

I believe life is full of miracles

Though one a day is all we need

Authentic Dreams Don’t Die.

The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. (John 20:1 KJV)

Lots of people are not particularly enthused about Mondays because it is the first day of the working week. Even if you love your job the fact that your weekend is over can sometimes be quite depressing but only if the weekend was a good one.

Some of us are busier at weekends than during the weekdays. After a very eventful weekend, the last thing I want to do is wake up early on a Monday morning. And even if I have to, the last place I will want to go to is to the cemetery or the grave where my dream is buried. Not only is it a creepy place to go to, I will not want to be reminded about where my loved one, my dream and what I thought was my future is buried. I mean what is the use of that? I will rather forget about it.

So after a gruelling weekend of seeing her Lord and master being tortured and killed, after being witness to his decimation, and hearing the previously adoring crowd shouting, ‘crucify him!’, after seeing his body being thorn and bruised beyond recognition, after seeing the miracle worker, great teacher, sent from above subjected to a common criminal’s death, an embarrassing one at that, witnessed by many and mocked by many: if I were Mary Magdalene, I will not be seen anywhere near his grave especially not on the first day of a new week.

So what made her go there? What made her go to the place where dead things are? It was a reluctance to let go. A faithfulness and loyalty that disappointment and disillusionment could not curtail. A refusal to give in to the final verdict. She will rather wake up early to sit by her dead dream than to live without one because she knew that this dream was different. It was not meant to die. If it did then there must be more to the story than what she had witnessed.

Sometimes, we do not wait to see the real ending of what seems dead to us. If you truly handled it and are a witness to its efficacy, and it’s authenticity then you will not give up on it even when it appears dead.

If you are true to yourself, you will know when something in your life is above-board, is beyond ordinary and needs holding onto no matter the decimation it has been subjected to.

I am yet to see anyone throw away a £50 note because it is dirty or crumbled or wet or even torn. You will wake up early, go back to the rubbish bin where it was dumped. You will retrieve it and clean it up, repair it and use it. Because you know beyond all doubts what it’s value is.

This Jesus, this faith, this Christian life is worth going back to the graveside for. It is worth retrieving. Yes people have brought reproach to the name of Christ. People have done horrible things in the name of religion, but this one, this Jesus, this Christianity, we have tasted of it, we have handled it and it is different. It is no ordinary faith. It is authentic. It is valuable and it’s worth standing in each dead place were it has been defamed and buried and holding on to it until the end.

So that bishop has even found to be gay. That church has mis-appropriated your money. That mighty man or woman of God got divorced. If your faith has been affected, I want to tell you that seemingly dead or alive, Jesus is worth holding on to.

You know how the story went for Mary Magdalene. She was the first to see the resurrected Lord. She was the first to see the ‘authentic’ rise again. Because she was forgiven much, she loved much. Because she truly experienced it, nothing, not even obvious death on a cursed cross, could shut it down inside her.

Where are the Mary Magdalenes of our time? Come on. Let’s us prove to the world once again that:

‘That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full’. (1 John 1:1-4 KJV).

Jesus said: ‘And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?’ (Luke 18:7, 8 KJV)

We shall be like Job. We will hold fast our faith and even when all is thrashed around us, we will say ‘For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth’: (Job 19:25 KJV).

My friend, don’t give up. Wake up! Stand by your dream! Till it is resurrected.

‘Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? (John 11:25, 26 KJV)

Your vision, your dream shall Iive again.

‘But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you’. (Romans 8:11 KJV).

Having a Cliff Edge Experience? That’s your Platform for Success.

‘Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (Romans 8:37 KJV).

I have never seen a well designed auditorium without a platform of some kind to exhibit or showcase a character, an orator or a performer. The aim is that the audience will have a clear view of the central figure or performer.

If you speak to some actors and actresses they will tell you that being on a platform or stage gives them stage fright. Some even say that stage fright provides that high and tingling sensation and adrenalin they need which makes them give their very best to their performances and makes them a success at what they do. To them being on stage is like ‘having a Cliff edge experience’. The responses or reactions you allow yourself to make at this time will either result in the best performance of your life  or professional suicide in your acting career. All eyes are on you. You either rise to the occasion or slink back in fear.

Although life is not a play and there are no rehearsals, it is often the case that without pressure, the best does not come out of us.

The world as a whole is like an audience in an auditorium looking to see or be a witness to what the great playwright of life has written concerning you and how it pans out in the end. You are God’s leading man or leading lady. God specialises in putting you on the stage or platform of life through the unique things you suffer, your cliff edge experiences.

The willingness to go through great suffering and to bear up under that suffering without giving up on yourself and on God always pays off. It removes the dross and reveals the gold in you which is what God wants. He wants to reveal his glory in you. He is not irresponsible, he loves you and he is intimately aware of how much you can take. The problem is that you yourself may not be aware of the value he has placed on the inside of you. The sheer tenacity and endurance of the human soul and spirit is usually hidden from us until an unavoidable demand is placed on it.

You shy away from the platform, often just satisfied with being one of the audience. It is however your cliff edge experiences that single you out and serve as a platform for introducing you to the greatness that God has placed on the inside of you. Revealing this is more important to God than simply giving you a comfortable and a convenient, suffering – free life. God wants to show off to the heavens, the earth and hell just how much like him you are.

Your true value is in the eternal, indestructible, valuable components of your soul and your spirit and if need be the body must sometimes be allowed to suffer to unearth the treasure within. Even Jesus was ‘led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil’ (Matthew 4:1 KJV). Great men and women are discovered in the abyss of great suffering.

“They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end…………. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven”. (Psalm 107:23-27, 30 KJV).

‘My Brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. but let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing’.(James 1:2-4 KJV)

It is in the valley of the shadow of death, that God anoints your head with oil. That is where he prepares a table before you in the presence of your enemies. Although it doesn’t feel like it, he is very present with you.

So don’t look at your challenges , your reproach, your great suffering that seems so unfair and ask ‘why me’? Instead, give thanks that you have been chosen to showcase the glory of God. That this moment of trials and suffering cannot and will not compare to the greatness and the blessing it will release and reveal in you. The things you loose or have to live with or without actually make room for you to access what you would not normally have access to.

Therefore don’t underestimate the value of your Cliff edge experiences. Stand boldly in the face of the storm and remember his eyes are on you. Don’t waste this platform that God himself has set up for you. Let the greatness in you be revealed.

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”. (Romans 8:37-39 KJV).

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”. (Jeremiah 29:11 KJV).
