Let’s not even discuss it, I can’t find the words
You ask me why I trust him
He was there when the suddenlies came
When the billows started rolling
Right in the midst of my serenity
When the thunderstorm came unannounced
On my bright sun shiny day
When all was right with my world
And it suddenly tilted out of balance
Spinning me around like a puppet

I couldn’t figure out why
It didn’t make any sense
Have you had one of those suddenlies?
The kind no one understands
No one can help, Too gone too fast
Others have experienced it too
I have heard their stories
He only had a cold that won’t shift but the doctor said he was at stage four
And must prepare to die
She married the love of her life
The wedding was the talk of the town
And now she can’t have any babies
They were just passing by
They decided to help the lady
Now they are under fire. She said they are the culprits
They lost everything in one day

Have you ever had a suddenly
Which you couldn’t explain to no one
It is during such times
When the unthinkable happens
That we look for the friend
The one who sticks closer than a brother
I thought my end had come. I yelled and screamed in private
And smiled so bright in public
My heart was bleeding raw. I almost lost my mind

Can’t believe it happened to me. This nightmare I had to live with
I longed for some refuge. Anything to stop this terror from swallowing me whole
It’s easy to succumb to despair. When you are nearly half dead
Beaten down by a suddenly That you can’t even explain

The suddenlies don’t care who you are
Their waves will pull you under
The world will stand amazed. When they see the mess you are in
They will snigger and berate, Your excellencies of the past
Forgetting that those suddenlies Can visit any one they choose
But if like me you’ve come through
Rescued by the Lord
He was with me in the pit. Even when I didn’t know it
He pulled me out to safety And ordered my speedy recovery
How can I not trust in him
It is really not subject to debate
He flips it around for me. Bringing joy out of despair
Renewing my strength, Setting my feet on stable ground
Giving me Beauty for Ashes

You ask me how I know it’s him?
It is in the middle of the fire, when no one can help
That’s where he introduces himself
Wouldn’t have heard him any other way

Who refuses the strong hand of help
When no one else can help?
I know him so well now but He has always been here
Standing silently by
How can I not trust him
He has nothing to gain, I have everything to lose
He rules over the suddenlies, That makes other powers shake
And he turns it around for me
How can I not trust him?
He is King over the suddenlies
And I am safe with him

Welcome. Let’s get introductions out of the way. Don’t forget to tell me a bit about yourself too.

ENOUGH SAID!!! - Articles by Selasie Bulmuo

{ What Is Truth?} – I Don’t Know What To Do With ‘Myself’

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32 KJV).

It is amazing how difficult it is to attribute blame to oneself when things go wrong around us. Blaming oneself or taking the responsibility for things not working is a skill which everyone needs to cultivate. The natural human response when things go wrong is to find out whose fault it is. The last person we look at is ourselves and even when we eventually do, we go all the way to the other extreme of being overly critical of ourselves.

In respect of those who blame others apart from themselves, they usually take themselves out of relationships and move on to other relationships believing that in so doing they will rid themselves of the problem people in their lives.

The important thing for effective change and progress in life is not necessarily getting away from problems or problem people but rather creating a right response to the problem. As as long as we react and not respond in a balanced truthful way, we do ourselves a disservice because we are not making use of the truth about ourselves, our weaknesses, our strengths, our talents and skills, our ability to endure or bring change or to make a difference.

The springboard for right responses is embedded in what we each consider to be the truth. But what is truth? Truth is subjective is usually the brain child of whoever it is who is putting it forward. It may or may not be based on facts. Even facts can be variable depending on who is experiencing such facts. There is always different perspectives from which different people view the same thing.

In deciding what is ‘truth’, there is always one constant which makes all the difference and makes that truth relevant. That constant is the person who has the truth. You are therefore the guardian of your own freedom.

Our responses to situations and circumstances have to be the right responses, being mindful of the fact we are first of all responsible for ourselves, and also for our contribution to the problem, in terms of what we did or what we failed to do which directly or inadvertently contributed to the negative state of affairs.

The greatest enemy to real fulfilment is therefore this; ‘not having a balanced view of ourselves’. Not learning or knowing in a balanced way the ‘truth’ about ourselves. We become prisoners to ourselves, our prejudices, our tolerances and intolerances etc. We become a beseiged city. Nothing goes in and nothing comes out. We are a law unto ourselves.

There is one person you can never get away from no matter how hard you try. And that is yourself. No matter how quickly you escape from adverse relationships and circumstances you take the main variable which is you with you. It is that same you that you are putting into the next mix, or relationship or set of circumstances and unless you do the work needed to bring change in yourself, you simply compound your problems.

You are the only one you carry everywhere with you. What you feel, what you think, what you want etc, determines how you live your life.

It is time to get rid of the rose tinted glass from which we view ourselves and our world. It is time to come face to face with the truth about ourselves. It is only this which allows us to seek redemption, to seek a saviour, to seek the ultimate truth, which is able to reveal our true identities to us. Moreover this gives us real value to match our face values. This is what sets us free. Free from manipulation by others, free from deception about ourselves, and deception from others, free from fear, free from what we think we cannot live without or cannot live with. Free to be who we were trully meant to be. Free from ourselves and our self imposed struggles, be it for fame, for fortune, for survival, for …. who knows what the human heart can imagine and desperately want?
What if you had the freedom to live your life without ‘you’ getting in your own way for a fulfilled life?

That will be freedom indeed.

Only the truth does that for us. The way to recognise truth is that it sets you free, primarily from yourself.

For example, only a free man can ‘love his enemies and do good to them’.

Anything that does not set you free in the real sense of the word is not the truth. When I say free, I mean free from yourself, free to do something about your inadequacies, your bad habits, sins, excesses, pride, over ambition etc.

The only one I know who can give you that kind of freedom is Jesus Christ. Wait a minute, don’t tune out at this time. I am not talking about a religion, but about the only relationship that any human can enter into which is so secure that we relax our hold on protecting ourselves long enough for change in our innermost being to occur. A relationship that allows you to recognise your shortfalls while shielding you with love at the same time and providing the way, the power and the ability to make the journey to becoming a ‘free you’.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36 KJV).

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV).

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:17, 18 KJV).

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. (Romans 7:18, 19, 24, 25 KJV)

Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:23, 24 KJV).

Let The Hearer Hear

He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. (John 8:47 KJV).

There is only one way to say the truth. You say it just as it is. Once it is tampered with, it becomes colourful and diluted and is no longer the whole truth. It is the same way to hear truth. It is important that you take it all in. See the whole picture and accept the whole picture. Don’t change it to suit you and dont dismiss it as  irrelevant to you.

God knows how to hit the bull’s eye. God doesn’t miss his targets when he shoots. He has no need to mince his words or to be politically correct or to pacify those who might get offended.

The truth is the truth and should not be compromised, not in words or action.

This was apparent in Jesus’s life while he was here on earth. Those who were able to take in what he said reaped the benefits of it. They believed him and believed in God and were able to access their miracles, healings, deliverances and with these they also received wholeness (soundness in body, sout and spirit).

Too much questioning of God’s word disables your hearing faculties. When you listen with the intention of disproving what you are hearing, you end up hearing what confirms your suspicions and your unbelief. Two similar people can be told the same thing or see the same thing; one accepts it with genuine belief while another disbeliefs and so does not reap the benefits associated with it.

What makes us disbelief the word of God?

It is usually a reluctance to change the status quo or the presiding order of things, because we are unsure of the benefits to us of making such huge changes. We do not want to commit to making the effort, of being inconvenienced, of making a mental and physical shift from our comfort zones. If what we hear does not conform to what we want to hear, we disapprove of it immediately and castigate it as untrue or worthless sometimes without looking further into the matter.

The word of God will be to you what you allow it to be. You can accept it as truth ( which it is ) and it will yield benefits for you. You can disapprove of it and it will be of no benefit to you. Infact it will be a stumbling block in your way, because deep in your heart you know it is valid and so you will constantly have to make the effort to disregard it. The human ear is made to hear and recognise truth when it comes across it. If you are honest and uncompromised by the views of the world around you, then if what you hear is the truth it will make sense to you but only if you wait long enough, search long enough, listen intently enough to what is being said.

If you disregard the word of God, you disregard his very salvation and deliverance for you which he has offered to all men and women through the person of Jesus Christ. God wants you saved. You may ask, saved from what?

Saved from yourself. We are actually our own worst enemies. In seeking gratification, security, happiness, we often go the way that ultimately destroys us. We partake of what is not life giving and we are unable to deliver ourselves from our addiction of satisfying ourselves and ourselves only. So God wants you saved.

‘For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time’. (1 Timothy 2:3-6 KJV)

‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ’. (John 1:1-5, 11, 12, 14, 16, 17 KJV)

Jesus is the word of God manifested in the physical to us on earth. He said if you see me you see my father who sent me. He said that he is the way to the father, he is the truth and the light. When you receive him and his words, you find the way out of trouble, out of distress, the way out of doom and gloom and find the way to access the father. If you disregard him, your life has no light, no illumination, you can try by yourself to figure out why things are as they are but without the light of his word shining in your heart, and in your mind, your physical endeavours and your mental faculties only take you so far. If you disregard him and his word you will not find truth.

Truth is unchangeable and stands the test of time. Truth is not popular, refined or pleasing to the natural ear. Truth convicts you, it exposes your weaknesses and inadequacies. It brings up the vomit before it makes you better. That is uncomfortable and so we shut our ability to believe down. Yes , you will find facts, you will find events and circumstances and knowledge but truth which holds it all together, that you will not find except you discipline your hearing ear to hear right.

‘Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light’: (1 Peter 2:6-9 KJV)

There are many who consider Jesus as a revolutionary figure due to the words he spoke while on earth. His words turned the prevailing social, political and religious orders on their heads. He said things that were hard to hear or accept but nevertheless they were the truth.

And like he said, it is only the truth that sets you free indeed. Any other thing besides the truth, does not satisfy your inner quest for long enough. It might give you the outward trimmings but will not set you free on the inside. Real freedom comes when you are free from trying to please yourself and become free to please God. Pleasing yourselve is not a comfortable thing to give up; only the truth about who you really are, why you are here, what you are made to live for, it is this truth that gives you freedom. It makes you free from fear of the unknown, fear of ridicule and fear of reproach. You are free from the sinful, stubborn, hard hearted nature. Anyone who freely gives his life to God proves that he / she is free indeed.

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:24-26 KJV)

But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. (John 8:40-47 KJV).

‘While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation’ (Hebrews 3:15 KJV)

‘God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds'(Hebrews 1:1-2 KJV).

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV)

So listen to some of the words of Jesus and let your ears and your heart hear him today.

‘Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect’. (Matthew 5:43-48 KJV)

‘Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets’. (Matthew 7:12 KJV)

‘Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof’. (Matthew 6:34 KJV)

‘Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets’. (Matthew 22:36-40 KJV)

‘But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all’. (Mark 10:42-44 KJV)

‘For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted’. (Luke 14:11 KJV)

‘She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more’. (John 8:11 KJV)

‘So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her’. (John 8:7 KJV)

‘Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life’. (John 8:12 KJV)

‘These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world’. (John 16:33 KJV)

‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid’. (John 14:27 KJV)

‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears’. (Luke 4:18-21 KJV)

‘And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine’. (Mark 11:15-18 KJV)

‘Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’. (Matthew 5:3 KJV)

‘Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone’. (Matthew 23:17, 23 KJV)

‘For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life’. (John 6:55, 56, 60, 61, 63 KJV)

‘Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them’. (Psalm 119:165 KJV)

ENOUGH SAID!!! - Articles by Selasie Bulmuo

Whose Child Are You?

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3 KJV).

I have met people who if they had a choice will not belong to the biological family they belong to. They have a thing or two to say about their parents or their siblings. At the very least they harbour a secret admiration for a friend or an acquaintance’s family and wish their own family were just as rich, happy, together, loving, supportive, educated, influential as these other families are.

There is one thing however no human can do. You cannot change your birth parents. Even if you moved and grew up with another family, you will not be a bonafide member of the family unless perhaps you were legally adopted by them. You may have shared everything in common with them just like all families do but as long as you were not legally adopted, in the eyes of the law, you were never a part of them although you lived in their house and shared everything with them.

In the same way, all humans are God’s creation. We all live in his house (earth). We live off his provisions, the air we breath, water and food from the earth. In his mercy, he continues to provide sustenance for the whole earth and all it contains.

Do you know however that not everyone is a ‘child’ of God? The concept is pretty alien to some people. They ask themselves – how can God have a child? If he can, doesn’t that mean we all, his creation are his children?

No. According to the bible there is a difference between his creation and his children. God made you just like a manufacturer will make something. He also made the animals and the stars and the moon and the sun. These are not his children. Like you and I, they are first and foremost his creations.

The bible tells us of Jesus Christ as the only begotten son of God. In the begining, he already existed. He was not made like you and I were although we were made in his image and by him. He is the legitimate family of God. Together with the Holy Spirit, they are a bonded 3 persons in one.

To become a legitimate child of God and to have access to the family inheritance not only on earth but also in heaven you and I must become children of God not by a physical transaction but by a spiritual transaction whereby we are adopted as sons and daughters into God’s family with all the rights and responsibilities of sonship.

When this happens it as as though you have been ‘born again’ and are no more just a creation of God but a child of God. This happens when you accept that you are an unqualified sinner who cannot by yourself do anything to merit becoming a child of God. You ask for forgiveness of your sins and accept Jesus Christ ( the only begotten son of God) as your Lord and saviour and agree a spiritual transaction which was sealed by covenant through his sacrificial death on the cross on behalf of you and everyone who will believe. By this exchange, he is able to give you life , everlasting life , a rebirth into the family of God.

“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:10-13 KJV)”

Listen to his own words which are a response to a question about how to have eternal / everlasting life -; Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3 KJV)

Become a child of God today. It is never too late but it would be if you were to die today without completing the exchange. It#s ot that you are not good enough as you are. It is simply that the legal criteria for the redemption of your sins has not been met and you are have automatically lost your chance to make that choice. In God’s view, everyday you live without becoming legally his, you are making the choice for which you will be held responsible. No one exempted. No sin is too big or too inconsequential. We all need redemption. There isn’t a single person who doesn’t. The price has already been paid. Don’t waste the opportunity.
