Poetically Correct !

I had a dream last night

All poets were gathered

Not a contest just a meeting

To decide and limit jurisdiction

No more writing what you like

No more missed punctuations

Or grammar that makes no sense

No sense? To whom? I asked

I write for me! I like me grammar!

Well, ‘Poet’ is now a legal term

Can’t use it without prior deference

There’s too many people

Who demean our craft

And now we must insist

‘WE’ insist on poetic correctness

No more silly love poems

Making readers want to puke

No more humour that’s unfunny

Forcing its way for poetic space

No more pretending to be smart

Using ubiquitous meaningless words

Striking fear in the hearts of amateurs

Plucking ‘do lala’ sentences out of thin air

Philosophical nonsense to impress

Clanking sounds which just don’t rhyme

Causing headaches we cannot shift

If you must write, we must insist

Be poetically correct all of the time

So one by one we all marched out

Saddened faces one and all

If we can’t write just what we want

Then we are doomed

To sit and stare

As our muses take a hike

They have no time to sit and wait

On mortals with too many rules

Poetic correctness, drains us no end

I turned around to see who’s left

Who it is that deemed themselves

Capable of being so poetically correct

There was no one, No not one

So here I am with the singular honour

To announce on behalf of all who write

Poetical correctness just died unseen

No need to starve your poetic muse

Join me and cast your vote right now

For poetic incorrectness

Long may it reign

There’s Love In the Air

This is a song I wrote 10 years ago. I just rediscovered it among some other ones in an old envelope of scrap papers I was going to throw away. Lesson: Don’t throw scrap papers away if you are a scribbler like me.

There’s love in the air

I feel it in the sunshine

It makes my skin tingle

I feel it in the morning breeze

There’s love all around me

I see it in a baby’s smile

It feels my my heart with hope

The innocent faces of the young

Are filled with love untainted

It’s there in all of us

The urge to care for another

But the experiences of our lives

Hardens the softness inside

Come with me on this Journey

Lets put aside our differences

Lets discover love again

It is in the aiar around us

We can find it if we try

A world free from wars

Food for the hungry

Shelter for the lost

Hope for the Future

Where we stand together as one

Forgiveness for the past

Respect for one another

Acceptance of our differences

Hope for the future

Where we stand together as one

What’s Love got to do with it?

What’s love got to do with it?

That was the question Tina asked

I waited to hear the response

It left me so dissatisfied.

Everything! I screamed inside

Without love ****************

The clouds are grey

The song is tuneless

The smile is frozen

The embrace is passionless

Sunshine is darkness

Lonely is king

The soul is mateless

The toil has no reward

Sacrifices are baseless

Words are empty

Wings can’t fly

Fires grow dim

Colour is all white

The journey is monotonous

The wind does not hum

Green fields are bare

The heart is cold

What’s love got to do with it?

It makes the world go round

And you become the rider

A trip of a lifetime

First hand experience

Not a second hand emotion

Love never fails
