Power

image
Who can hold on to it?
Those who don’t have it
They want it
Those who have it:-
Some give it away
Some hold on so tight
When all is said and done
Both are the same
Power cannot be owned
It is always on a lease
No matter what, that lease expires
While you have it
You can share it and enjoy it
Or you can hoard it and let it destroy you
Power in whatever form or shape
Is a master often disguised as a servant
How you treat it determines your end
Power is borrowed
It never really is yours
No matter how heady it feels
And if you forget that
You will expire
Before your time.

A Passing Ship In the Night

image

I saw a passing ship
During my midnight hour
It seemed to freely move
Away from where I’m docked
Locked down by ties that bind

I yearn to go aboard
For it to take me away
For there perhaps I’ll chance
Upon my delayed desires
Which time and tide forgot

To go I can’t, for bound I am
By vows I must not break
So here I stand unmoving
Both night and day unmoving
While yet another ship sails away
Away with my hopes and dreams

Pour Me Some Love

image

Pour Me some love

I wanna be giddy with it
Till I feel alive
You know I’m stuck on you
Revive my glory days
I wanna bloom
Beyond this gloom

My roots go a mile
In search of water
My thirst runs deep
My many fingered roots
Burrow here, there and everywhere

Searching, searching…
Water, just a drop please
You know how I like it
You know how I need you

I’m all fenced in
Can’t go nowhere
I’m rooted here
It’s dark, it’s dry, it’s killing
This living ain’t working

Revive me
Touch me
If you are there
If you can hear
Reach out….

Water my soul
Pour Me some love
Starve my quest
Quench this thirst

Water, water
Love, sweet love
Pour Me some love

POEMS

Suddenly

Let’s not even discuss it, I can’t find the words
You ask me why I trust him
He was there when the suddenlies came
When the billows started rolling
Right in the midst of my serenity
When the thunderstorm came unannounced
On my bright sun shiny day
When all was right with my world
And it suddenly tilted out of balance
Spinning me around like a puppet

I couldn’t figure out why
It didn’t make any sense
Have you had one of those suddenlies?
The kind no one understands
No one can help, Too gone too fast
Others have experienced it too
I have heard their stories
He only had a cold that won’t shift but the doctor said he was at stage four
And must prepare to die
She married the love of her life
The wedding was the talk of the town
And now she can’t have any babies
They were just passing by
They decided to help the lady
Now they are under fire. She said they are the culprits
They lost everything in one day

Have you ever had a suddenly
Which you couldn’t explain to no one
It is during such times
When the unthinkable happens
That we look for the friend
The one who sticks closer than a brother
I thought my end had come. I yelled and screamed in private
And smiled so bright in public
My heart was bleeding raw. I almost lost my mind

Can’t believe it happened to me. This nightmare I had to live with
I longed for some refuge. Anything to stop this terror from swallowing me whole
It’s easy to succumb to despair. When you are nearly half dead
Beaten down by a suddenly That you can’t even explain

The suddenlies don’t care who you are
Their waves will pull you under
The world will stand amazed. When they see the mess you are in
They will snigger and berate, Your excellencies of the past
Forgetting that those suddenlies Can visit any one they choose
But if like me you’ve come through
Rescued by the Lord
He was with me in the pit. Even when I didn’t know it
He pulled me out to safety And ordered my speedy recovery
How can I not trust in him
It is really not subject to debate
He flips it around for me. Bringing joy out of despair
Renewing my strength, Setting my feet on stable ground
Giving me Beauty for Ashes

You ask me how I know it’s him?
It is in the middle of the fire, when no one can help
That’s where he introduces himself
Wouldn’t have heard him any other way

Who refuses the strong hand of help
When no one else can help?
I know him so well now but He has always been here
Standing silently by
How can I not trust him
He has nothing to gain, I have everything to lose
He rules over the suddenlies, That makes other powers shake
And he turns it around for me
How can I not trust him?
He is King over the suddenlies
And I am safe with him

Shadows Of Heaven In My Path

image

 I look around this realm
Searching for hope
The certainty that change is coming
I look in the faces close by
They echoed my own disdain
Each wearing that wistful look
That desperate one that says
‘We know there’s more to us
This reality feels like a dream
From which we can’t awake’.

We cry out into the open air
Hoping the wind will carry our voices
Across the oceans and the hills
Though acrid deserts and thick forests
To the place where it all began
We pray without knowing we did
We appeal to one we cannot see
Not even sure if anyone can hear
We cuss out loud when we get nothing back.

We never ever think to look up
Oh no, that’s just a fairy tale
We are dealing with real life
We have no time for abstract things
Like a big grey haired man up in the sky
But when we have no where else to look
We raise our faces to the skies
We close our eyes and pretend we are 2
We make a wish and say it’s on a star

But It is a prayer from the heart
It’s filled with innocence unspoiled by life
Built on hope that there’s someone up there
Who can hear us and grant our wish
We plead with heaven while on our earth
We state our case to the rainmaker in the sky
We cross our fingers and hope not to die

We are jostled back to reality
We open our eyes
And everything looks the same
But deep inside we feel a change
Hope is alive, we feel reborn
To stand again, where we once fell
Everyone prays when they are up against the tide
Perhaps not to the man in the sky
But to the one we hope can hear our plea
From deep inside where we can’t lie

And maybe one day, we will believe
That love made us and love is God
And when all else fades away
We find ourselves back where we started
Standing naked in our childlike faith
Appealing to a love greater than us
Begging not to be denied
Our requests genuine and bare
Are answered by the one who loved us
Way before we existed in this realm
We finally know that we are known
Beyond this reality which is but a dream
God is real. He heard that prayer.
And now we believe
Heaven does cast shadows in our paths.

Let’s Talk About Love

image

Love never dies. Love never fails. Love is kind. Love is Patient. Love endures all.

Love is not a soft fluffy feeling that makes you feel good on the inside.

Love is not a card with sweet words that makes you smile.

Love is not a kiss that turns cold when winter comes.

Love is the bitter aftertaste of swallowed pride,

the sinking feeling of enduring another sleepless night,

the unshifting knowledge that you can’t give up.

Love is the battered, tired, bloodied hand that keeps on giving.

The worn out smile that is still warm

The weary heart that is still smouldering

Love is tough.

Love is a hardened gait that still has bounce.

Love is a stance that does not deviate.

Love never fails. Love never dies. Love endures all things.

NOW LETS TALK ABOUT LOVE.

REFLECTIONS OF CHANGE (as I approach my 40th birthday)

I look down the years
And what do I see
Colours of changing seasons
Each an experience to remember
They tell a glorious story
Reflected in each gaze
Across the rolling landscapes
Of times impressive sketches
Etched on my beautiful face
Which do I prefer
Yesterday or today
As my wand strikes 40
I think tomorrow is the best

Well as they say, Life begins at 40, right?
