Time Waits Only In Dreams

Another day is over
A new one has begun
But time has no beginning
And no end except for us
It camouflages its passing
With changes in seasons
As if to mark its path
With memories of how we were
Our joys and sorrows
Framed in stills of time
While time itself whizzed on

Time gives us what it can
Junctions at which we have to pause,
To reflect, rest and to take off again.
As if to draw us to chase after it
To try and recover our lost illusions
But time has no time to wait on our whims
Day follows night, day and night and day and
Light follows dark, light and dark and light and
Our senses try to adjust
To events as they unfold
But time does us no favours
It leaves us trying to unravel the present
While gazing at a past we can’t seem to let go of

Before we know we are done
Time speeds ahead, not a minute to spare
While we rest and play and work,
And some sleep and some even die
Time does not even stop to blink
It marches on untouched by our human drama
Summer, winter, autumn, spring
Simply loops on which time cycles
Riding on in its pomp in mockery of human frailty
Moving upwards in spirals of motion
Unperturbed by our emotions
Un-delayed by history, it marches on
Never to repeat the cycle of today
It heads for tomorrow at break neck speed
And we chase after never catching up

Time is resolute in its commitment
To move forward come what may
It does not hold on to events that trip us
No matter how gruesome or glorious they may seem
While people mourn the passing of a great one,
And historians record other milestones
The new dawn greets us with the cry of a new born
Another doomed to chase after time
Time does its work with certain conviction
And so must we from one day to the next

So no matter how hard today may have been
We must remember tomorrow is on its way
So we prepare to say bye to the now
Making each ticking second worth our while
Whether we choose to rest, play or work
The choice is ours, now is a gift soon passing on
Intangible memories are ours to keep
While we strive to keep in step with time
Today’s events hide the beginnings
Of a new day that will soon pass too
It’s no use being in a hurry
Or else you’ll miss life which is for living
And still not catch up with time anyway
It’s no use withdrawing from the race either
Life is still the time we spend in living

The time you are given is gone when it is gone
Time is on the move, it waits for no one
It has a journey it must complete
And so do you
This is your time, right now is yours
But never forget that with or without you
Time moves on
You can choose to dance or give up and cry
And still Time moves on

Unloving My Lethargy

Why do I strive
For what do I battle
Fighting against my will
Subjecting my resolve
To a battery of insanity
It’s not that I want to
It’s not that I have to

My willingness is still questionable
But my doing is absolute
This has been thrust on me
By fate, by time, by chance?
I awoke from a pleasant dream
I was dreaming my life away
Wasting precious time
An unconscious waiting game
Waiting for life to begin
Waiting for dreams to be fulfilled

Like the sharp piercing alarm
My ears heard the unmistakable sound
My internal whistle went off
The sound unmade my rest
I am driven to action to do
To undo my lack of doing

There’s a force within my being
It owns me and I surrender
In abandon to its dictates
I who was once undriven
Unmoved by the hurry of life
I who wondered when
My lethargy will be no more

Now I live, I breathe, I do
My DNA jolted and infused
Activated codes of Purpose
Now race uncoded within my being
I have been hit by a powerful bullet
It killed my luscious laxity
And left this plain awkwardness
Clearing my vision
Focusing my mind

Now so aware am I
Of this simple fact
That all I have ‘s today
So today to do I must
As my purpose dictates
With no apologies to my comfort
For I am driven from within
I cannot stop this race

It’s my time and I must run
I must knock, I must ask
I must seek until I find
That which my soul demands
Its work must be complete
And all I have ‘s Today
Tomorrow is unpromised
And my being knows it so well

Does practice really make perfect? Well, it is a fact that, without practice, you will be no where near perfection. If you repeatedly practice a wrong move, you will simply become well versed in your mistake and will definitely not get better. Practice doesn’t immediately make you perfect either. It makes you better and better and takes you closer to perfection if what you are practicing is right in the first place. The kind of Practice that definitely makes you incrementally better is one you should not give up on. Ask anyone who is a dominant figure in their area of influence. They start practicing early and finish late. They do not take long habitual breaks no matter how good they get. They know they can only get better than the rest as long as they keep their practice regular, consistent and persistent. Some started rigorous practice when they were little children and have kept it up for years. Aiming for perfection gives you the focus, the drive and the passion to not give up practising until your good becomes better and your better best, and your best approaches perfection. Keep going. You are nearer than you were yesterday.

Command The Morning

So you think it has no voice

The Morning I mean

It speaks to me

It  tries to tell me what to do

No need for words

Compliance is sure

It only succeeds if I refuse

To speak up first before it does

Taking my rightful stand

To command the morning

To set it’s agenda by myself

I tell you what

It has an ear too

To listen to my changing mood

It can cooperate but will take control

If my mood has no oomph to it

The morning dictates

It says relax, there’s plenty of time

You have many more hours to go

No need to rush out of your warm bed

Snooze just a bit, just a bit longer

You deserve your rest, so what’s the hurry.

Before I know it

Time has galloped far

Its servant the clock

Furiously ticking away

I jump up suddenly

Out of my reverie

The rest is history

The day is filled

With rushing here, there and everywhere

So I have learnt my lesson

And it’s a simple one

Time and tide waits for no one

It’s a game of negotiation

I need some leverage

To make tomorrow’s morning comply

If I am to be the one commanding it

Then, its agenda I need to set

The troubles of today

All have to be put to sleep

Tomorrow is a new day

It deserves a fresh approach

I need to be ready

Before it comes around

So starting tonight

I’m  mapping and reflecting

Finding my voice

tonight, yes tonight

So I am not beguiled come the morning light

To play by rules not really mine

At the crack of dawn

My day will hear my voice

Resounding loud and clear

With a bounce in my steps

Motivated and alert

As I tell it my plans

I’ll no longer wait for it to decide

I command the morning

I enlist support

Of heaven and earth

As I lead the way

And bask in knowing

That I led it well to a fruitful day
