Time Waits Only In Dreams

image
Another day is over
A new one has begun
But time has no beginning
And no end except for us
It camouflages its passing
With changes in seasons
As if to mark its path
With memories of how we were
Our joys and sorrows
Framed in stills of time
While time itself whizzed on

Time gives us what it can
Junctions at which we have to pause,
To reflect, rest and to take off again.
As if to draw us to chase after it
To try and recover our lost illusions
But time has no time to wait on our whims
Day follows night, day and night and day and
Light follows dark, light and dark and light and
Our senses try to adjust
To events as they unfold
But time does us no favours
It leaves us trying to unravel the present
While gazing at a past we can’t seem to let go of

Before we know we are done
Time speeds ahead, not a minute to spare
While we rest and play and work,
And some sleep and some even die
Time does not even stop to blink
It marches on untouched by our human drama
Summer, winter, autumn, spring
Simply loops on which time cycles
Riding on in its pomp in mockery of human frailty
Moving upwards in spirals of motion
Unperturbed by our emotions
Un-delayed by history, it marches on
Never to repeat the cycle of today
It heads for tomorrow at break neck speed
And we chase after never catching up

Time is resolute in its commitment
To move forward come what may
It does not hold on to events that trip us
No matter how gruesome or glorious they may seem
While people mourn the passing of a great one,
And historians record other milestones
The new dawn greets us with the cry of a new born
Another doomed to chase after time
Time does its work with certain conviction
And so must we from one day to the next

So no matter how hard today may have been
We must remember tomorrow is on its way
So we prepare to say bye to the now
Making each ticking second worth our while
Whether we choose to rest, play or work
The choice is ours, now is a gift soon passing on
Intangible memories are ours to keep
While we strive to keep in step with time
Today’s events hide the beginnings
Of a new day that will soon pass too
It’s no use being in a hurry
Or else you’ll miss life which is for living
And still not catch up with time anyway
It’s no use withdrawing from the race either
Life is still the time we spend in living

The time you are given is gone when it is gone
Time is on the move, it waits for no one
It has a journey it must complete
And so do you
This is your time, right now is yours
But never forget that with or without you
Time moves on
You can choose to dance or give up and cry
And still Time moves on

As The Years Go By – poem by Selasie Bulmuo

As the years go by

Our memories go wry

The child’s carefree play

No longer sees the light of day

Chasing after long held dreams

We waste no time going to extremes

As the years go by

Life plays tricks so sly

Without Knowing how it happened

We realise we have ripened

Thoughts and priorities change

The simple thrills of the past seem so strange

Friends, Laughter, Play, Fun

Who needs them when time is on the run

Acheivements! Achievements!

Become the hearts daily torment

As the years go by

One can’t help but sigh

We stop and start remembering

How our simple lifes were worth the living

When it was free of self made pressures.

Then memories past like long lost treasures

Reminds us that after all our struggle

Life continues to be a puzzle

But if we change our attitude

Life takes on a new magnitude

And with Everything in its rightful place

Life becomes a satisfying race.

Time and Tide Waits For No One – Poem by Selasie Bulmuo

Time and Tide

Waits for no man

If to the top you want to ride

All of nature works as one

So come on now, arise and shine

Go with the flow, It is your time

To all you do give your very best

All obstacles to you will bow

If with providence, you will go

Only then can your work be best

And that is when you will find true rest

What time is it?

SMART TALK

Seasons

Always walk in your current season. Don’t spend today’s resources on wishful thinking of what could have or should have been. If you are not currently walking in it, it is either not yet yours or the season has past.
Be a concrete thinker. Work with what you’ve got diligently everyday and move steadily into your future. Don’t worry about the future, let the future reveal itself to you. But remember you have to do the walking now. Move forward. The future will surely be yours. – Selasie Bulmuo

When Preparation Meets Opportunity, Purposes Become Established.

2 Peter 3:8

When I was at school, both through my secondary education as well as college, I always purposed at the beginning of every new term that come the end of term I will be very prepared for the final examinations. I usually start of very well, with good planning, attending every lecture, setting time aside for study, adhering to my timetable.

Unfortunately, this often does not last for too long before I start trying to take things a bit easier, telling myself the end of term is still some time away and that I did not need to be so hard on myself. Almost too soon, the examinations timetable will be out at which time i begin to realise that there was no longer enough time to prepare. That is when the late night coffee and sleepless nights begin. What this demonstrated to me was that even when purposes and timings are known, preparation can be difficult to maintain.

When it comes to our life’s purpose, our destinies, time is not something we can control. It will not move faster than 24 hours a day and it will not go slower than that either. Time does not respect deadlines. It does it’s thing irrespective of who it affects and how it affects them. Our destinies, our futures, our dreams, our expectations, our purposes are always locked away in time waiting to be unraveled. All we can do each day we are alive is to prepare to make them a reality by wisely using the opportunities that come our way.

There are however those who work hard, do the best they can but feel that their breakthroughs never seem to come. They seem to have a lot of motion but no progress. There are others who get the breaks they need at the right times and appear to have mastered the rhythm of life. The wise man Solomon in the bible puts it this way:

‘I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them. (Ecclesiastes 9:11, 12 KJV).

Time and Chance (opportunities), they make the difference. Both of these unfortunately are out of our control. They are out of our control for a reason. There is a purpose for your life, for which cause, you were born and allotted a specific amount of time to live to fulfil that purpose. God is the one who know this purpose and the time allotted to you and the opportunities you need for this purpose to be established. He alone therefore maintains control over both time and opportunities. The most important thing to him is that you fulfil your purpose and not necessarily the longevity of your life or the abundance of the opportunities he brings your way.

Time and opportunities are means to an end as far as God is concerned. Purpose is the deciding factor when it comes to how much time and opportunities he gives you. He therefore uses them (time and opportunity) to prepare you for purpose. It is a tragedy therefore to live without identifying your God ordained purpose. You will most likely be wasting the time and opportunities that come your way. You can’t afford  to do so because their supply as far as you are concerned is limited.

God on the otherhand walks in purpose and he subjects time to purpose. (“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”. (2 Peter 3:8 KJV))

You unlike God,can only walk in time to fulfil an assigned purpose. When the allotted time for that purpose is up, there is nothing you can do to change it. But it will be a tragedy for your time to be up and the purpose allotted to it and to your life has not been achieved.

But how can your purpose be achieved, if you spend your time refusing to be submitted to God and to be accountable to him so he can lead and direct you? You may seem successful at what you spend your time doing but is that the reason God is keeping you alive? Remember, there is no extra time once your time is up.

The Psalmist understood this and so prayed; ‘The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom’.(Psalm 90:10-12 KJV).

While you are still alive, now is the time to allign yourself with God, so you can spend your time making the right preparation for the God ordained opportunities coming your way. Remember they are linked to your purpose. However if you are spending your time preparing for the wrong thing, you will miss those opportunities, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

You can live a very long life and never fulfil your purpose because your preparation and opportunities never matched or synchronised. Your end will be full of regret and disillusionment. You can also live a short life but achieve all that God intended for you to achieve, in his way and in his time. That is fulfilling. Whether time and opportunities are on your side or not the most important thing is that you have lived the life God purposed for you. At the end of which you will hear him call you a good and a faithful servant / steward. My advice to you is as follows:

‘……..Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation’. (Hebrews 3:15 KJV).
